Texas A&M softball defeated No. 14 Mississippi State 4â0, marking their third consecutive SEC series win. The Aggies have improved significantly since the start of the season, showcasing their ability to win tight games.
Texas A&M softball just keeps stacking quality wins, and Saturdayâs 4â0 victory over No. 14 Mississippi State at Davis Diamond delivered their third straight SEC series win. What makes this group so compelling is how different they look now compared to opening weekend.
After navigating early lineup shuffling and a brutal nonâconference slate, the Aggies have begun to settle into a clear identity. Nothing comes easy for them, but theyâve learned how to win tight games, beat the teams they must beat to stay on the regionalâhost track, and Saturdayâs performance only strengthened the rĂ©sumĂ©.
Game 2 followed the familiar script of a lowâscoring, grindâitâout battle in BryanâCollege Station. Neither team produced a hit in the first inning, but A&M struck first and didnât need a swing to do it. Their trademark patience at the plate paid off again as a hitâbyâpitch and two walks loaded the bases for pinch-hitter Maddie Sauni, who forced in a run with an RBI walk.
Moments later, another hitâbyâpitch brought home a second run before a rain delay halted play. After the 30âminute pause, Tallen Edwards drew yet another basesâloaded walk to push the lead to 3â0.
From there, the game turned into a pitcherâs duel. Both teams struggled to find hits, combining for just six total, three apiece. Mississippi State stranded six runners while A&M left 10, but neither side could break through from the third to the fifth inning as the pace quickened and scoring chances evaporated.
The Aggies finally added insurance in the bottom of the sixth when a sacrifice fly brought home pinch runner Hailey Golden. That was more than enough for Sydney Lessentine, who delivered one of her strongest outings of the season. She retired the Bulldogs in order in the seventh to complete a dominant shutout and lock up the series.
A&M continues to trend upward, winning the games theyâre supposed to win while showing flashes that they can still elevate their ceiling. With another topâ15 victory in hand, the Aggies look more and more like a team rounding into form at exactly the right time.
Texas A&M will go for the series sweep on Sunday, April 19, at 1:00 p.m. CST. The game can be viewed on ESPN and the ESPN App.
