Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and O-line coach Adam Cushing have reportedly made significant progress with the top-ranked offensive tackle prospect in the 2027 class, as five-star Mark Matthews is coming off a successful visit in College Station, and attended the Maroon & White Game on April 18.
After landing a commitment from five-star offensive lineman Kennedy Brown last weekend, the Aggies have gained significant momentum, while seeing four 2025 starting offensive linemen be selected in the 2026 NFL Draft certainly helps as a recruiting pitch now and moving forward.
However, Miami and the Georgia Bulldogs are both in the running for the blue-chip prospect, but according to AggieYell insider Jaxson Callaway, Texas A&M's staff completed an in-home interview with Matthews and his family, while the returns have reportedly been "extremely positive" moving into the weekend.
Still, Miami offensive line coach Alex Mirabil also made his way to Matthew's home on Thursday night, while Georgia is apparently making a last-minute run for the Florida-based blocker, but is not considered a "serious contender" according to Callaway.
"It’s been reported that Georgia also conducted an in-home visit with Matthews on Tuesday, though there has been little traction coming out of that meeting. At this point, the Bulldogs are not viewed as a serious contender to land his commitment in the near term."
The timing couldn't be better for the Aggies, who hope to lock down Matthews in the coming days, or as late as next week, and enter the same with even more momentum before hosting a long list of 2027 priority prospects.
