Texas A&M baseball has surpassed 500 home runs under coach Michael Earley, with the team hitting 108 home runs this season. The Aggies are looking to rebound from recent losses as they prepare to face Mississippi State.
No. 10 Texas A&M (37-12, 16-10 SEC) heads back to Blue Bell Park after back-to-back SEC series losses to Auburn and Ole Miss last weekend, and while the Aggies have yet to endure a sweep in conference play, losing four out of their last seven games isn't ideal this late in the season. Set to host No. 13 Mississippi State, starting on Thursday night, coach Mike Earley's team is looking to rebound before the SEC Tournament.
Texas A&M's offense has been consistent all year, but after losing freshmen infielders Nico Partida and Boston Kellner to injury, the Aggies' Game 2 18-5 in on Saturday was a complete outlier compared to close losses in Game 1, while Saturday's 6-5 rubber match defeat likely would have gone the other way if Partida's bat were available.
Heading into Thursday's game, it's important to note that, when fully healthy, Texas A&M's 2026 lineup has been borderline elite at the plate under Earley's guidance, already hitting 108 home runs, led by Caden Sorrell's 22 on the year, followed by Gavin Grahovac (17), Nico Partida (12), Jorian Wilson (12) and Bear Harrison (11). Hitting .304 as a team, five players are hitting .300 or better.
Last season, despite missing the postseason for the first time in more than a decade, the Aggies hit 95 home runs. During Jim Schlossnagle's final season at the helm, the Aggies' national runner-up campaign included 136 home runs, with Earley serving as the team's hitting coach.
Mike Earley deserves a ton of credit this season as he continues to serve as the primary hitting coach in combination with his head coach duties, and thanks to TexAgs analyst Ryan Brauninger for releasing the data, this isn't the first time the Aggies have excelled at the plate for an extended period, as four seasons during the Rob Childress era, specifically 2007-2011, Texas A&M hit 326 home runs, averaging over 65 per year.
For Mike Earley, pitching issues and the aforementioned injuries have plagued the offense in tight games, but after senior Ben Royo's memorable two-game performance, finishing a perfect 7-7 with three home runs, it's no surprise that Texas A&M has hit 509 home runs since Earley arrived in College Station.
