Texas A&M has landed more 2027 5-star commits than any program

On Friday night, Texas A&M landed a massive commitment from five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, who chose the Aggies over LSU, Georgia, and the Miami Hurricanes, as third-year coach Mike Elko and fellow third-year offensive line coach Adam Cushing have built a future O-line that's chock-full of NFL talent.

Paired with five-star IOL Kennedy Brown, Cushing's development strategy, which led to four offensive lineman hearing their names called in the 2026 NFL Draft, played a much bigger part in both Brown and Matthews committing than NIL opportunities, knowing that their NFL futures will be right on track, including working with S&C coach Tommy Moffitt.

Before Matthew's announcement, Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class had stayed as Rivals' No. 1-ranked cycle for the last two months, and the Aggies are not even close to being finished adding talent heading into the summer. Compared to the rest of the country, among A&M's 14 commits in the 2027 cycle, the Aggies possess at least three more five-star commits (5) than every other program in Rivals' 2027 class rankings.

While a five-star billing does not guarantee that a prospect develops into a future NFL first-round selection, Mike Elko, compared to former Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher, has already proven that he is a much better developer of talent and will continue to send players at every position to the league after a record ten players were selected in the 2026 draft.

While signing Kennedy Brown and Mark Matthews is the next challenge, early commitments are usually a good sign, especially after watching Matthews' reaction after choosing the Aggies over his other three finalists, and yelling "Elko Era!" on Friday evening.
