Unpredictable 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Predictions and Surprises
Texas A&M's head coach has no update on star infielder Chris Hacopian's injury after he was hit in the face during a game against LSU. The Aggies continue to perform well, winning nine of their last ten SEC games.
No. 7 Texas A&M (29-7, 10-5 SEC) looks like the hottest team in the SEC after winning its last nine out of ten conference games, including Friday night's 10-4 road win over LSU, led by freshman outfielder Jorian Wilson's two home runs, and an impressive night on the mound from Shane Sdao, Gavin Lyons, and Ethan Darden.
After sweeping rival Texas in College Station last weekend, the Aggies are looking to win their third SEC series after defeating Vanderbilt the week prior, and even after stranding 11 runners while striking out 15 times on Friday, scoring ten runs and three home runs further proves that Texas A&M's offense will continue to lead the way for the rest of SEC play.
However, after recording two hits and driving in the run that gave the Aggies a 2-1 lead in the fifth frame, Maryland transfer Chris Hacopian took a brutal pitch to the face in the eighth inning, which looked to graze his mouth, resulting in the junior reportedly spitting up blood in the dugout.
After Wilson's second home run of the night, placing the proverbial "dagger" in the Tigers to take a 10-4 lead, Ethan Darden finished off the home team in the night, taking Game 1, while the attention turned to Hacopian's health status. Well, for those looking for an immediate update after the game, head coach Michael Earley said he does not know the status of his star infielder ahead of Saturday's matchup.
"I don’t know at this time. We just had a lot of trouble getting him to stop bleeding, so right now, I have no idea. I haven’t talked to him yet."
Still, TexAgs baseball analyst Richard Zane stated that Hacopian remained in uniform after the game, while his face appeared swollen. This sounds like good news, but it's clearly up to Hacopian, based on pain tolerance, whether he can play the rest of the weekend. Saturday's injury report will paint a clearer picture regarding his status.
