Texas A&M lands critical commitment from Tennessee transfer forward

Texas A&M head coach Bucky McMillan and his veteran staff struck gold in the transfer portal after landing Kansas State star guard PJ Haggerty last Friday, leading to Wednesday's commitment from former Samford and Radford guard Lukas Walls, and, as of Thursday afternoon, Tennessee transfer forward Cade Phillips becomes the third transfer commit for the Aggies this month.

After visiting College Station, it was revealed that Phillips was down to Alabama and the Aggies, while On3 insider Joe Tipton revealed that Texas A&M gained momentum for the transfer big man, who brings much-needed physicality as rebounder, and for those who didn't watch him during his last two seasons with the Vols, Phillips is one of the best rim defenders in the SEC.

Appearing in just ten games last season, Phillips averaged 3.8 points per game, shot 65% from the field, and his impressive size at 6'9" and 221 pounds provides an immediate boost to an Aggie frontcourt that is desperate for size, pairing well with returning big man Jamie Vinson.

While Phillips' scoring average does not jump off the page, his career offensive rebounding percentage (13.7%) is the highest in Texas A&M history and the 21st-highest in SEC history. This is just the start for Bucky McMillan this month, looking to add two or more transfers over the next few weeks.
