Texas A&M extended its winning streak to six games on Wednesday night, rolling past Baylor 10â3 on the road behind another explosive first inning and a steadily improving offensive identity thatâs starting to take shape at the right time in the season.
Midweek games can be unpredictable, just ask No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 3 Texas Tech, and No. 9 Tennessee, all of whom were upset earlier in the evening, but the Aggies avoided the trap by jumping on the Bears immediately.
A&M loaded the bases within minutes thanks to singles from Kennedy Powell and Tallen Edwards and a walk drawn by Mya Perez. The first two runs came without the benefit of a hit, as a passed ball and a Baylor fielding error opened the door. Ariel Kowalewski then doubled to score Micaela Wark, prompting an early bullpen move from the Bears.
A sac fly from Kelsey Mathis added another run, and sophomore shortstop KK Dement capped the sixârun outburst with a twoârun homer, giving the Aggies a commanding 6â0 lead before Baylor even recorded three outs.
The Bears answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and added another in the third to cut the deficit to 6â3, but both offenses went quiet in the fourth. In the fifth, freshman pinchâhitter Maddie Sauni delivered a momentumâshifting swing, launching a solo home run over the centerâfield wall to push the lead back to four.
Texas A&M sealed the win with a threeârun seventh inning, creating a comfortable 10â3 margin heading into the final frame. The Aggies closed it out with a clean threeâup, threeâdown inning to secure their sixth straight victory and another confidenceâbuilding performance away from home.
The Aggiesâ recent trend of fast starts, sustained pressure, and timely power continued, and with the lineup settling in, this group looks increasingly capable of peaking as postseason play approaches.
Texas A&M will host the No. 14 Mississippi State in a three-game series starting on Friday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. CST. The game can be viewed on SEC Network and the ESPN App.
