Texas A&M softball lost 11–8 to Auburn, eliminating them from the SEC Tournament. The Aggies have now lost five of their last seven SEC games.
Softball is a game of ups and downs for Texas A&M, and right now the Aggies are trending in the wrong direction. Following an early exit from the SEC Tournament in an 11–8 loss to the Auburn Tigers, they have now dropped five of their last seven SEC games as they wait for their regional seeding.
Wednesday morning opened like it would be a high‑scoring affair, with a tight strike zone forcing pitchers to work in the zone and both offenses taking advantage. Auburn struck first with a solo home run in the top of the first inning, but the Aggies answered immediately. With two runners aboard, Micaela Wark doubled to score Tallen Edwards, and a few batters later, Ariel Kowalewski delivered a two‑out double to bring home Mya Perez, giving A&M a brief 2–1 lead.
The game had all the signs of a back‑and‑forth battle, especially after Auburn put up four runs in the top of the second to retake a 5–3 lead. From there, the Aggies’ bats went cold while the Tigers added three more runs, stretching the deficit to 8–3. In the bottom of the fifth, Edwards reached on a fielding error to finally give A&M a baserunner, and after Auburn had walked Perez in her first two plate appearances, they chose to pitch to her. Down 0–2, Perez made them pay with a two‑run home run that cut the lead to 8–5.
After a quick three‑up, three‑down top of the sixth, Paislie Allen opened the bottom half with a solo home run to make it 8–6. Three singles followed, and with two outs, Wark came through again with a clutch two‑run single scoring Kennedy Powell and Frankie Vrazel to tie the game 8–8.
Unfortunately for A&M, Auburn’s two‑out hitting, strong all game, showed up again in the seventh. With runners on the corners, the Tigers launched a three‑run home run to reclaim an 11–8 lead. The Aggies went down quickly in the bottom of the frame, unable to mount one last rally, and were eliminated in the second round of the SEC Tournament.
