Texas A&M outfielder Caden Sorrell was named to Baseball Americaâs national team of the week after a fantastic string of performances against Sam Houston and Vanderbilt.
The Aggies were hot entering last week after an away sweep against Missouri, entering Tuesdayâs game against Sam Houston with a five-game win streak. Sorrell helped Texas A&M extend their streak to six games with a 2/4 performance, including 2 doubles, 3 runs, and 3 RBIs. His performance helped the team cruise to a dominant 16-2 victory.
Vanderbilt, however, was a different question. While the Commodores, unlike the Aggies, arenât ranked, they swept 21st-ranked Tennessee and won a series against 13th-ranked LSU. They are a legitimate team that would present Texas A&M with trouble.
The Aggies dropped the first game against Vandy, but this was in no way Sorrellâs fault. The junior outfielder hit two home runs in his five at-bats, driving in three runs.
With a Friday doubleheader ahead, the Aggies needed two big wins to come away with a series victory, and Sorrell helped lead the team to victory. He went 1/3 in the first match but drew two walks and stole two bases. In the second leg, Sorrell went 2/4, drew a walk, hit a double, drove in two runs, and scored one himself.
Sorrell's weekly stats totaled to a .375 batting average, 8 RBIs, 7 runs, 2 home runs, 3 doubles, 2 stolen bases, a .500 on-base percentage, and a .938 slugging percentage.
