Texas A&M remains in the SEC standings after losing series to Auburn and Ole Miss. The team, currently 16-10 in conference play, needs to improve consistency at the plate before the NCAA Tournament.
No. 7 Texas A&M (37-12, 16-10 SEC) is a lock for the NCAA Tournament, but after dropping consecutive SEC series vs. Auburn and Ole Miss this weekend, coach Mike Earley's veteran team will need to finish strong, set to host Mississippi State this weekend before the SEC Tournament.
Currently sitting at 16-10 in conference play, A&M's two-game sweep of rival Texas has continued to play an important role this late in the season, providing the Aggies with a small edge heading into this weekend's regular-season finale.
Still, after striking out 41 times in 25 innings against Ole Miss, despite winning 18-5 in Game 2, which included a record-tieing seven home runs, it is quite telling for a team facing several injury issues that a lack of consistency at the plate must be solved before heading to the postseason.
However, after losing freshman shortstop Boston Kellner after the Arizona native was hit in the face by a pitch, resulting in a broken orbital bone, senior infielder Ben Royo made his way to the starting lineup, only to look like one of the best players in the country after finishing 7-7 with three home runs, five RBI, and a walk after appearing in the four game prior.
Across the rest of the SEC, Texas lost two of three on the road to Tennessee, also holding a 16-10 SEC record, while the Georgia Bulldogs have all but wrapped up the regular-season crown, sitting at a healthy 20-6 in conference play.
Right now, Texas A&M is fully expected to earn a top 16 seed and host a regional, only if one or two wins, or a sweep vs. Mississippi State, come to fruition. Before the final regular season series, here are the updated SEC standings.
