With the start of his college career just a few months away, Joe Sterling is already making headlines. The Longhorns in-coming freshman was named to the Cali Sports 1st Team All-State on Wednesday. It was an honor that came as no surprise, given how Sterling finished his time at Westlake High.
During his senior season, the California native averaged 21.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and four assists per game. Due to his play, the Harvard-Westlake High star is ranked as the 10th-best combo guard in his class by 247Sports. They also rank the Longhorns prospect as the ninth best player from California.
When Sterling steps on campus, he will be part of a 2026 class that has high expectations. He will be joined by Austin Goosby, Coleman Elkins, and Bo Ogden. That group is ranked among the top 10 in the nation and will arrive at the Forty Acres with high expectations.
One of the biggest reasons, Sterling drew the interest of the Longhorns is his ability to score in bunches. He can be a threat from three-point range which should fit well into head coach Sean Miller's scheme. If he can continue to improve his game then Texas will not be an easy team to face.
Although the expectations will be higher than ever, Sterling has shown that he can lead an offense. With him at the center of Westlake High's game plan, the Thunder were not an easy team to plan against. It does help when one of the best players in the state, like Sterling is on the roster.
While fans will have to be patient to see Sterling in the burnt orange, his latest honor shows that it will be worth the wait.
