Texas State baseball will make major changes to its starting rotation for this weekend's series against Southern Miss.
Head coach Steven Trout told the media after Tuesday's 4-3 win over Houston Christian that pitchers Kyle Froehlich and Sam Hall will be moving into the bullpen. Wade Cooper and Cade Smith will be joining Jesus Tovar in the weekend rotation.
"We tend to get a lot of length out of our starting pitching," Trout said. "So you got to make some changes to try and get out to a better start."

Froehlich and Hall have had their moments, but have struggled overall. Their earned run averages sit at 5.31 and 5.87, respectively. Froehlich gave up three hits and three runs in three innings in the Bobcats' last series against Troy. The Trojans scored three runs on Hall, who recorded one out before being pulled.

Cooper, meanwhile, has five saves and a 2.81 ERA in 25 ⅔ innings pitched as the closer. Smith has been Texas State's most reliable reliever, recording a 3.27 ERA in 33 innings. Trout said the changes will force other pitchers to step up for the vacated spots, but Froehlich and Hall showed encouraging signs in their new roles against HCU. They shut out the Huskies in the eighth and ninth, with Hall picking up his first save of the year.
Trout hinted at changes to the rotation after losing Saturday's doubleheader to Troy. Following the Southern Miss series, Texas State will travel East the following week to take on the top Sun Belt team, Coastal Carolina.
