AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas went into the Southeastern Conference softball tournament seeded fourth, and they left it at the top.
The Longhorns thumped second-seeded Alabama 7-1 on Saturday to claim the tournament title at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky. Texas is the seventh different program to claim the SEC tournament title since 2021, following Oklahoma and Texas A&M’s shared title last year. Florida won in 2024, Tennessee in 2023, Arkansas in 2022 and Alabama in 2021.

SEC SEMIFINALS: Texas walks off Georgia to earn spot in SEC tournament title game
Despite giving up a home run in the first inning to Alexis Pupillo, Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan spun a beauty. She struck out 12 in a complete game performance, allowing one run on three hits. She faced 26 batters and threw 107 pitches, 70 for strikes, outdueling Alabama’s SEC Pitcher of the Year Jocelyn Briski.
Kavan worked her way out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth with a pair of strikeouts. The Crimson Tide had runners reach on an error, a single and a walk with one out, but Kavan buckled down to strike out Audrey Vandagriff and Ambrey Taylor and escape the frame unscathed.
