The San Francisco 49ers have completed a trade for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa from the Dallas Cowboys, giving up a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Odighizuwa aims to strengthen the 49ers' defensive line as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Defensive tackle was a key need for the 49ers this offseason, as they looked for a veteran to pair with rising second-year players Alfred Collins and C.J. West. Odighizuwa fills that hole. The biggest issue the 49ers had last year was with their pass rush. Odighizuwa led all Cowboys with 52 pressures last year, recording a pass-rush win rate of 13.6 percent, according to PFF. He also had just one missed tackle on the season, while recording 14 run stops. Durability was key as well, as Odighizuwa played all 17 games for a fourth straight year. The 49ers needed a pass rusher and got one who was in the upper echelon for interior defensive linemen in pass rush win rate and pressure rate. It was a steep price, but a notable move for a player entering his age-28 season.
The 49ers traded their 2026 third-round pick, No. 92 overall, to acquire Osa Odighizuwa from the Dallas Cowboys.
In 2025, Odighizuwa led the Cowboys with 52 pressures and had a pass-rush win rate of 13.6%, playing all 17 games without significant injury.
The trade addresses a key need for a veteran defensive tackle, allowing the 49ers to improve their pass rush and providing depth alongside younger players.

The pick happens at 92 overall. We will update as soon as the selection is made.
Of course, weāll have to see what comes out of the No. 92 pick, but the 49ers had a surplus of fourth-round picks, which gave them the ability to move one of their mid-round selections for a need. Odighizuwa comes at a very reasonable price for a quality pass-rushing defensive tackle, and the 49ers could look to keep him fresh and rotate him with the bodies they have at the position. San Francisco had the requisite cap space for a move like this, and a veteran at the position was a necessity after striking out in free agency on one of the few quality defensive tackles. Odighizuwa will be tasked with leading the group in 2026, but this looks like a quality move on paper and one that comes with flexibility next offseason, as thereās no more guaranteed money on the defensive tackleās contract that the 49ers owe.
