The 76ers have successfully come back from a 1-3 deficit against the Celtics, but the Knicks are determined not to let history repeat itself. No NBA team has ever recovered from a 0-3 playoff series deficit.
PHILADELPHIA — The 76ers just came back from down 1-3 to the Boston Celtics in the first round. The Knicks aren’t letting lightning strike in the same place twice.
No team in NBA history has ever come back from down 0-3 in a playoff series, but the Sixers are one of 14 teams to win a series after losing three of its first four games.
“They’re a really good team man and they’ve already done it once before,” head coach Mike Brown said after the Knicks held a film session on Saturday following their Game 3 victory. “We addressed it, but the biggest thing is just trying to stay present, not getting ahead of yourself and however you can do that, try to do it. And the simplest way for me is just keep reminding myself, reminding people around me it’s one game at a time — but it’s also one quarter, one possession at a time and trying to lock in on each possession like it’s your last.”
Of the 161 teams in NBA history that have taken a 3-0 series lead in the playoffs, 98 have gone on to complete a 4-0 sweep.
“We just gotta stay in the present. The next game is the most important game,” added Karl-Anthony Towns “There’s a lot of things we need to clean up and we want to clean up and we have another game to do that. It’s about just staying about us.”
Brown offered no update on OG Anunoby, the star Knicks forward who sustained a right hamstring strain in Game 2 and missed the Game 3 victory on Friday.
“He’s still day-to-day. I had not followed up to ask any specifics,” Brown said on Saturday. “I just wanna let them know, ‘OK, when’s he gonna be ready to play?’”
Brown said being up 3-0 in a series doesn’t give him any additional cushion to rest Anunoby given his importance to the team’s success.
“Not for me. Like I said it’s all medical related and it starts with [the medical team], the doctors and OG,” he said. “And all I want them to do is tell me when he can play.”
Brown’s decision to change the Knicks’ offense while down 1-2 in the first-round series against the continues to draw high praise.
No team in NBA history has ever come back from down 0-3 in a playoff series.
The Knicks are aware of the 76ers' previous comeback and are focusing on staying present and taking it one game at a time.

The Knicks' Game 3 victory puts them in a strong position, as 98 out of 161 teams that took a 3-0 series lead have completed a 4-0 sweep.

The offense now runs largely through Towns, who has 20 total assists through the first three games of this series and has 46 assists over his last six games versus just 10 through the first three games of the Hawks series.
Towns was asked whether or not he was vocal in suggesting the offense should run more through him.
“I feel like we all had an opinion, and we were able to figure out what was best for our team, especially in a spot like that — down 2-1,” he said on Saturday. “I had my opinion, I feel like we’ve done a great job adjusting to have all of us be our best.”
Brown said he had to walk a fine line in the playoffs. He didn’t want to change things too drastically.
“What we’re doing now, I think, can have great carryover next year and down the line because we’d be able to expand on it the right way through a training camp and all that other stuff,” he said. “Right now it’s a little limited, but there’s still enough options within what we kind of stumbled upon to make it effective, but hopefully as time goes on, we’ll be able to expand on it, and if we can get to it during this playoff run, great.
“If not, we feel pretty good about where we’re at, going forward even afterwards.”
