The Toronto Maple Leafs have won the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery and the right to pick 1st overall at the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
With a 8.5% chance of winning the lottery, the balls fell in their favor and now the Leafs will have an opportunity to select projected 1st overall pick Gavin McKenna at this June's Draft in Buffalo, NY.
The Leafs leapfrogged the Calgary Flames New York Rangers, Chicago Blackhawks and the Vancouver Canucks to win the pick with the San Jose Sharks jumping up even further to select 2nd overall.
The big loser in this all, of course, are the lowly Vancouver Canucks.
The Canucks dropped from 1st overall to 3rd overall after being passed by the Leafs and the Sharks. It's a tough pill to swallow for a team and a fanbase that has been absolutely WRECKED by the NHL Draft Lottery throughout its history.
Get this: The Canucks have been in the Draft Lottery 7 times in their existence and they have moved down in the Draft every time. They have never moved up or kept their original placement.
Ouch...
So... with the team no doubt tasting some sour grapes, what do they do?
They stick it to the Leafs and their parent company Rogers on social media.
Well... kinda.
Thanks to the NHL's "Unfollow Tracker" we can see that the official Canucks Instagram account unfollowed Rogers on social media just minutes after the Draft Lottery results were made public.
Winning the Draft Lottery allows the Maple Leafs to select the projected first overall pick, Gavin McKenna, which could significantly enhance their roster.
The Vancouver Canucks took to social media to mock Rogers/Sportsnet in response to the Maple Leafs' victory in the Draft Lottery.
The Maple Leafs had an 8.5% chance of winning the Draft Lottery, which ultimately favored them.
