Detroit Red Wings goalie prospect Rudy Guimond’s team-record 65 saves couldn’t prevent his Moncton Wildcats from falling 3-2 to Armada Thursday in the four-overtime Game 1 of their QMJHL playoff series.

This was the longest game in Wildcats’ history and the fifth-longest in QMJHL history. A news report of the game referred to Guimond’s play as “sensational.”

The Athletic recently listed Guimond’s among the Red Wings’ top 10 prospects. His 65-save performance represented a .956 game save percentage. Guimond hasn’t lost in regulation in these playoffs. He owns a 1.57 goals-against average and .939 save percentage. He is heading to Harvard to play college hockey next fall.
