Detroit Red Wings goalie prospect Rudy Guimondâs team-record 65 saves couldnât prevent his Moncton Wildcats from falling 3-2 to Armada Thursday in the four-overtime Game 1 of their QMJHL playoff series.
This was the longest game in Wildcatsâ history and the fifth-longest in QMJHL history. A news report of the game referred to Guimondâs play as âsensational.â
The Athletic recently listed Guimondâs among the Red Wingsâ top 10 prospects. His 65-save performance represented a .956 game save percentage. Guimond hasnât lost in regulation in these playoffs. He owns a 1.57 goals-against average and .939 save percentage. He is heading to Harvard to play college hockey next fall.
Detroit GM Steve Yzerman said thereâs a chance injured Nate Danielson (lower body) could play if the Grand Rapids Griffins make a long AHL playoff run.
