It was definitely a worthwhile risk for the Raiders to trade for Pickett in 2025. He was always going to be the backup, so perhaps the fifth-round pick was high and maybe the $2.6 million was more than they wanted to spend on a backup, but with an aging Geno Smith, getting Pickett in to see if he had a chance to be the long-term guy was a smart move.
