According to details reported via Golf Monthly, Eisenhower remains the only U.S. President to have been a member of Augusta National.
“But only one President has worn the club’s Green Jacket. Dwight D Eisenhower was a member of Augusta National from 1948 until his death.
“He is one of the most famous Augusta National members as the tree which stood on the left side of the 17th hole was nicknamed after him,” it was reported.
His association with the club went beyond simple membership, becoming part of Augusta’s identity.
The connection between Eisenhower and the course is still referenced today, highlighting his lasting presence at the venue.
Eisenhower’s influence at Augusta extended into the course itself, most notably through a feature that carried his name for decades.
“This was because Eisenhower’s drives often clattered into it and he unsuccessfully demanded that it be cut down. Eisenhower’s tree was removed in 2014, 45 years after his death, after suffering damage from an ice storm.
“He also famously had his own cabin built for him on-site, known as the Eisenhower Cabin, which still stands today,” the report added.
The story reflects how closely tied he was to the club’s day-to-day life during his time as a member.
Even after the removal of the tree, elements like the Eisenhower Cabin continue to underline his lasting connection to Augusta National.
Decades on, Eisenhower remains a unique figure in Augusta’s history, still the only President to have been part of one of golf’s most exclusive institutions.
