âMy coach from Syracuse, he got fired. Once it happened, you just sit there and wait to see whatâs happening with the new coach. I knew I was going to enter the portal just to see what was out there, leaving the option to go back to Syracuse.
âBut when BYU hopped in the picture, when my agent told me that (BYU) was a possibility, that was something I knew I wanted to explore further. Then I didnât really waste any time, once I talked to the coaches, I just knew that was the place I wanted to be.â
âThereâs just a short list of schools in the country with NBA pedigree, and thatâs where I want to go. BYU is one of those schools just as far as the NBA staff.
âIn the last two years, AJ (Dybantsa) is (almost) in the league and then Egor DĂ«min (was a first-round pick), so itâs just a place thatâs going to have NBA players, the eyes that it puts on. Thatâs just a place that I want to be a part of.â

âThereâs a lot of ups and downs, and you canât get caught up in the downs because if you just let things snowball, then that could be the end of your season. I just know that things could change quick, itâs game by game. You canât let one game affect another game; youâve just got to keep on moving and keep on pushing.â
âI remember we walked into the arena for a shootaround, and I was just shocked about how big the arena is, but then also for just coming out for the layup lines, because the fans were here so early.
âIt was probably just the craziest atmosphere I played in my freshman year for sure. We also lost by like 20 points, so that didnât help. But I just remember it was just a crazy atmosphere.â
âItâs been cool, itâs been just a lot of basketball. The thing that really separated them from other people is just, obviously, they know I can shoot, thatâs cool. They wanted me for that, but they also think I could do more and think they could help me get better at other things.
âThey didnât just tell me that, they showed me how on film, just talking and stuff like that. And thatâs really what sealed the deal for me, honestly. They had a plan already on how theyâre going to get me better.
âIt was very specific. It wasnât vague. I knew what they were saying. It seemed obtainable for both of us, and thatâs what caused me to say yes and choose BYU.â
âHonestly, coming back to the Big 12 didnât play a factor at all (in coming to BYU). I would have come to BYU if it was in any conference. But Iâm definitely excited to come back, just seeing last year how many good teams they had in the Big 12.
âItâs just something you look forward to. You see what Arizona did. Theyâre probably one of the best, top three teams in the country.
âI watch a lot of basketball, so I watched the Big 12. We also played three Big 12 teams (at Syracuse). So Iâm definitely excited to come back and compete in that conference.â
âI wish, but I donât know a guy. Iâve got faith in the staff. They know what theyâre doing. I think theyâre going to find a guy thatâs right for us.â
