Rory McIlroy just became the second British player to win back-to-back Masters.
He and Sir Nick Faldo are the only two to accomplish this, as McIlroy tied Faldo for major championship wins with six. With the win, he becomes the near-undisputed best European player of all time.
Afterward, legends of the game and celebrities everywhere congratulated the 36-year-old, and among them was the British Royal Family, who sent a message to McIlroy.

The Masters, more than any other golf tournament in the world, cuts through to the mainstream, especially when there is a winner as famous as McIlroy.
The news reached the Royal Family, and they posted the following on X: “Congratulations @McIlroyRory on your extraordinary back-to-back win at @TheMasters!”
McIlroy won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award at the end of 2025, truly marking his status as a domestic icon. His completion of the Career Grand Slam and his heroics at the Ryder Cup meant he was the no-doubt winner of that award.
And after his second Masters victory, the next step is surely to join Faldo and receive a well-earned knighthood!
McIlroy has already received a Royal Honour, having been named an MBE in 2012, but it seems certain that he will one day be knighted.
He was asked last year what that would mean to him, and the Northern Irishman responded, “If that were ever to happen, it would be an unbelievably massive honour,” said McIlroy, who was made an MBE in 2012.
“That’s obviously up to people a lot more powerful and important than me. “But I mean, if it were to happen one day, it would be a very proud moment in my life.”
It could happen as soon as this year after this incredible triumph.
