Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy, despite approaching 36 years of age, has locked down the hot corner for the back-to-back champions and is having another late-career resurgence.
Muncy has been stellar in 2026, putting up a .293/.376/.598 slash line with a 172 OPS+ and 1.2 fWAR. He sits in the top ten of the most valuable position players during the first month of play, and Muncy is doing so as a defender as well.
The lefty has been a productive mainstay for years with the Dodgers, playing at an above-average-to-great level over that span.
However, after a relatively down 2024 season and start to the 2025 season, Muncy has made a major change that has led to his recent upturn in form.
In 2026, Max Muncy has a batting line of .293/.376/.598 with a 172 OPS+.

Muncy debuted a new hitting accessory in an April 30, 2025, game against the Miami Marlins — clear glasses.
Players are known for donning sunglasses as defenders, hoping to keep their eyes on the ball. However, hitters have not often worn glasses, but after Kike Hernandez found success with eyewear at the plate, Muncy had an eye exam.
The lefty was picking up his wife’s prescription when the doctor offered an eye exam, which revealed astigmatism in his right eye — a corneal curvature that can cause blurred vision.
He only wore the glasses around his home before eventually taking them to the batting changes, where he immediately saw enough success to bring them on the field.
Since then, the results are undeniable.
Muncy — since the April 30 game when he started wearing glasses, until April 23, 2026, before Thursday’s game vs. the Giants — has played 95 regular-season games, and he is slashing .275/.399/.572 with 27 home runs and 72 RBIs in the window.
For context, in his previous 100 regular-season games before wearing glasses, dating back to the start of the 2024 season until April 29th, 2025, Muncy hit .217/.338/.424 with 15 home runs and 52 RBIs.
In a similar sample size, the slugger has been miles better than he was before the glasses. He always had an elite eye for pitches, but his strength has only grown since he started wearing glasses.
The success of Muncy and Hernandez with eyewear has led to a shift in the Dodgers organization’s view of a player’s vision and to its prominence.
“I got Max Muncy to go check his eyes. He went in with the same doctor I went to, actually. He went into an in-person eye exam, and sure enough, the same exact thing, just on the other eye,” Hernandez said on “The GIST of It” podcast.
“He had astigmatism in his eye, and once he started wearing his glasses, his season turned around big time. He ended up having a great year, and of course, he had a great postseason too.
“Max Muncy is the perfect example, and if we’re being honest, the Dodgers started checking their minor leaguers a lot, and I think there were 12 to 15 guys that ended up needing glasses that they had no idea about.
“So, there are a lot of kids wearing glasses in minor leagues now because me and Muncy are wearing them in the big leagues.”
