Akers was a three-year starting punter at Northwestern after spending two seasons at UCLA. He averaged 42.9 yards per punt on 180 attempts in his six-year collegiate career.
Akers also contributed as a placekicker at Northwestern, converting 13 of 17 field-goal attempts (long of 43 yards) and 13 of 13 extra-point tries over the course of the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Akers will face an uphill climb to catch on with the Eagles.
Punter Braden Mann signed a four-year, $14 million contract this offseason. Longtime kicker Jake Elliott struggled mightily last year, but he has received a vote of confidence entering the 2026 season.
