Mohamed Salah has revealed that Steven Gerrard gave him advice that helped persuade him to leave Liverpool.
The Egyptian will go in the summer, a year before the end of his contract, having spent nine years at Anfield after following Gerrardâs suggestion that he went on his own terms.
But Salah, who turns 34 in the summer, insists he is in good shape, can still offer a lot and said that he âdidnât become old overnightâ as he wonders which his next club will be.

The winger will miss Sunday's trip to Manchester United with a muscle injury but is optimistic he will be return before the end of the season and is on course to play his final match against Brentford on 24 May.
âFor sure, the injury is fine,â he told Gerrard on TNT Sports. âI will hopefully be back.â
While Salah has only scored 12 of his 257 Liverpool goals this season â compared to 34 in 2024-25, when he was named PFA Player of the Year for the third time â he feels he is not finished yet.

Salah suffered a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace (Reuters)
âI feel good,â he added. âBody-wise I feel alright. I didnât become old overnight. Last season I had this incredible season, I think I have a lot to give still and I will see what is the best for me.â
Salahâs future was called into question when he was dropped by head coach Arne Slot in November and then gave an explosive interview in which he accused Liverpool of throwing him under the bus, leading to his omission for the Champions League trip to face Inter Milan.
He has returned to the team since then and Salah added: âTo go through the season I feel like this is the right thing to do now and I have peace with it. The season was tough for all of us. I don't want to say much.â
But he divulged that Gerrard, another of Liverpoolâs all-time greats, went to visit him in January and helped him make up his mind about the right course of action.

âPeople didnât know you came to my house, we had a good conversation,â Salah added. âYou said your opinion and I really appreciate it. I am glad I am leaving now through the big door.
âThat is something you mentioned to me, just leave on your terms, I still remember those words. I am happy about it. Everything that is going on this season makes me think, âno, it's time to goâ.
âHonestly, physically I feel I have a lot to give. I played many games this season and I played the African Cup of Nations. I didn't decide yet what I am going to do yet, I have a lot of options, good options. Physically I feel fine, I feel what I did over the years paid off, I feel good. I will see what is best for me.â
