Pastrnak scores OT winner as Bruins beat Sabres 2-1, avoiding elimination
Kentucky Basketball fans are frustrated as two recruits, including Caleb Wilson, chose rival schools during televised announcements. This trend has become a painful experience for the fanbase.

Everyone loves Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal. They are the undisputed gold standard of sports television, well, NBA television.
But for Kentucky Basketball fans, seeing the iconic Inside the NBA crew pop up on their screens during a recruiting announcement is quickly becoming a nightmare.
Twice within the past year, Kentucky fans have had to watch recruits who were once thought to be Wildcat leans end up picking a blue-blood rival instead.
The painful trend started with Caleb Wilson. For months, Kentucky fans tracked every twist and turn of his exhausting, drawn-out recruiting process.
At multiple points, the Wildcats were widely considered the heavy favorites to land the dynamic forward. But near the end, the writing was on the wall; he wasn’t going to Kentucky.
When it finally came time to make his decision, Wilson opted for the brightest lights possible. He went on national television, sat down with the Inside the NBA crew, and committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Almost everyone knew it was coming, but it still sucked.
Lightning doesn’t usually strike twice, unless you are Mark Pope, apparently.
Once again, Mark Pope was heavily involved in a twisting, turning recruitment for an elite prospect. Once again, Kentucky was viewed as a major player early on, but faded as time went on.
And once again, the prospect decided to make his announcement on national TV alongside Chuck, Shaq, Kenny, and Ernie, this time during an NBA Tip-Off on ESPN.
UK fans had to endure Charles Barkley teasing “a whole lotta blue over there” when Stokes brought out a blue present, only to watch the No. 1 player in the class of 2026 painfully slowly open a box with a 2K card inside, officially committing to the Kansas Jayhawks.
Two massive, drawn-out recruitments. Two times, Kentucky was viewed as a prime contender early. Two times the prospect went on national television to banter with the best studio show in sports, and two times Mark Pope was left watching another fanbase celebrate.
Caleb Wilson, a recruit initially believed to be leaning towards Kentucky, ultimately chose a rival school during a televised announcement.
Kentucky Basketball has faced disappointment as multiple recruits they were targeting have opted for rival programs instead of joining the Wildcats.
The *Inside the NBA* crew, including Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal, has been prominently featured during recruiting announcements, which has frustrated Kentucky fans.

The Inside the NBA crew is awesome, but maybe no more college announcements. At least not when it’s a big-time Kentucky recruit.
Titles aren’t won in May, but great rosters are built then. Pope has assembled a roster that is missing a centerpiece star. I believe he thought that was Stokes. It won’t be.
The question becomes, who will it be, if anyone?
