Urvil Patel scored a remarkable 13-ball fifty for Chennai Super Kings against Lucknow Super Giants, equaling the IPL record for the fastest fifty. This achievement occurred during CSK's chase of 204 runs in Chennai.
Chennai Super Kings batter Urvil Patel produced one of the finest knocks in IPL history, smashing a 13-ball fifty during CSK’s chase of 204 against Lucknow Super Giants in Chennai on Sunday.
With the innings, Urvil equalled the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history.
Fastest IPL fifties (by balls faced):
After reaching his fifty, Urvil dedicated the innings to his father. During the celebration, he pulled out a paper slip from his pocket that read: “This is for you Papa”.
The young batter took apart Avesh Khan in the fifth over, smashing three consecutive sixes and collecting 25 runs from the over. Avesh missed his lengths repeatedly and Urvil capitalised on every loose ball. One delivery disappeared over mid-wicket, another was hit over wide mid-on, while the third six went deep into the stands as the crowd at Chepauk erupted.
He continued the attack in the sixth over against Digvesh Rathi. Urvil hit more sixes over mid-wicket and long-on, including a 98-metre hit, as CSK scored another 25-run over to take control of the chase.
The innings also brought another record. Urvil became the first batter in IPL history to hit six sixes within the first eight balls of an innings. He raced to 41 runs off just eight deliveries, breaking the previous record of 33 runs after eight balls in IPL history.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants got off to a strong start but lost wickets in the middle overs and finished on 203 for eight after being asked to bat by CSK.
Josh Inglis led the charge with 85 off 33 balls, hitting 10 fours and six sixes, as LSG scored at more than 15 runs an over during the powerplay.
However, Jamie Overton pulled things back for CSK with figures of 3/36, triggering a collapse after LSG threatened to post a much bigger total.
Shahbaz Ahmed then added late runs with an unbeaten 43 off 25 balls, including three fours and three sixes, to push LSG past the 200-run mark.
Urvil Patel equaled the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history, scoring it in just 13 balls.
Yashasvi Jaiswal held the record for the fastest fifty in IPL, also scoring it in 13 balls earlier in 2023.
Urvil Patel's record-setting innings took place during a match between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.
