The Blues are yet again looking for another head coach after they sacked Liam Rosenior last month, less than four months after appointing him.
Rosenior is the second head coach to leave Stamford Bridge this season after Enzo Maresca’s departure in January.
Chelsea’s sporting directors are once again carrying out the search, and there’s understood to be a shortlist of five or six names.
Xabi Alonso is believed to be the preferred candidate, whilst Andoni Iraola also features highly in Chelsea’s thinking.
The Blues are also said to have made checks on Marco Silva, Oliver Glasner and Filipe Luis, although they aren’t said to feature as highly in the club’s thinking currently.
Given Chelsea can’t afford to get this decision wrong they are taking their time with it, and Romano has provided an update on the process.
“The idea at Chelsea is to get the new manager as soon as possible before the World Cup, this is the plan,” he told his YouTube channel.
Fabrizio Romano has not specified a candidate but indicates that Chelsea is actively searching for a new head coach.
