Three Main Takeaways from Ohio State Buckeyes' 2026 Spring Game
Football was being played again inside Ohio Stadium as the Ohio State Buckeyes dueled themselves in the annual Spring Game. After the game, Ryan Day mentioned that as teams get away from doing the Spring Game, he wants to try his best to keep it a staple in his Ohio State program.
There was a lot to take away from a rainy Saturday afternoon in Columbus as the team was competing hard in their final action of this Spring Session. Here are three major takeaways from the game.
This was Ohio State fans' first chance to get their eyes on the young quarterback, and he took full advantage of his opportunity. While official stats were not available for this game, St. Clair more than passed the eye test.
First of all, when he steps onto the field, his presence is felt almost immediately. He stands at 6'4" and tips the scale at 230 pounds. He is vastly different from Julian Sayin and is almost like combining Will Howard's size with Julian's poise and throwing ability.
His big plays on the day were a perfect throw to Chris Henry Jr. on a corner route that Henry Jr. hauled in and toe-tapped. The second highlight was a 46-yard bomb to Henry Jr. that he hauled in for a touchdown. He just nearly missed a signature 55-yard touchdown connection with Jerquaden Guilford on a ball that was underthrown by about two yards. St. Clair has the goods and absolutely looks the part to push Sayin in 2026 and take over for him in the years to come.
The main takeaways included standout performances, particularly from Tavien St. Clair, and Coach Ryan Day's commitment to the Spring Game tradition.
Tavien St. Clair is a notable player for the Buckeyes, highlighted for his impressive performance during the Spring Game, indicating his potential impact on the team.
Coach Ryan Day expressed his desire to keep the Spring Game as a staple in the Ohio State program, despite a trend of teams moving away from such events.

Ohio State Spring Game Recap: Defense Shines During Rainy Ohio State Spring Game
Chris Henry Jr is going to pick up wherever Jeremiah Smith leaves off. Don't get it confused, this is Jeremiah Smith's team, and the Buckeyes will go as far as Smith wants them to, but when Smith's era comes to a close, Henry Jr. is going to have no problem.
Henry's touchdown today stood out because he exploded off the line of scrimmage and immediately closed the gap between him and the corner. He got to the defender's blind spot and then took off. St. Clair laid it up there perfectly for him, and he hauled it in for a big touchdown. He has what it takes to compete at this level.
Cornerback Devin Sanchez is going to quickly find himself in the conversation as the next great Ohio State defensive back. In his limited reps on Saturday, one play stood out like a sore thumb. He was in one-on-one, man-to-man coverage against Jeremiah Smith. He had such good initial coverage that Julian Sayin had no other choice but to throw a back-shoulder ball.
Sanchez was on it.
With one poke, he extended his arm through the hands of Smith and forced an incompletion 15 yards downfield. It was enough for me to mark down that he is going to have zero problems this year.
