Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski and Pittsburgh Pirates starter Mitch Keller were putting together stellar starts on Saturday night at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
But the Pirates were able to score three runs in the top of the 10th inning, defeating the Brewers 6-3.
Misiorowski worked six innings, giving up six hits, three runs (all earned), walked one, and struck out nine. He even managed to bust the 100-mph limit on one of his pitches, too. Keller worked five innings, giving up five hits, three runs (all earned), walking two, and striking out six.
This pitcher's duel, despite both of them giving up three runs apiece, was worth watching.
For Brewers fans, though, things turned into a nightmare in the top of the 10th inning.
Oneil Cruz struck out swinging for the Pirates in the top of the 10th inning. With runners at first and second base with one out, Bryan Reynolds singled to left and Henry Davis scored. Pittsburgh went up 4-3 at that point.
Then, with runners at second and third base with two outs, Nick Gonzales singled to left field. Nick Yorke and Reynolds scored, putting the Pirates up at 6-3.
The Brewers weren't able to score in their half of the 10th inning, and that was the ballgame.
It's not like the Brew Crew didn't have chances to score more runs, either. They left eight runners on base, and went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. It's enough to keep Brewers manager Pat Murphy pacing the floor a little at night.
The final score was 6-3 in favor of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
