The Seacoast high school Athletes of the Week for May 4-9 includes a first-place tie in the boys poll — Oyster River baseball player James Saunders and Spaulding track athlete Caleb Plante. Traip Academy girls lacrosse player Sam Latchaw is the girls winner.
The weekly polls run each Monday through midnight Thursday, and can be found at seacoastonline.com/sports and fosters.com/sports. The honors are presented by York County Community College.

Latchaw joins previous girls winners this spring: Spaulding softball player Meagan Uraskevich, Winnacunet softball player Lucy Gelbstein and Exeter girls lacrosse player Riley Benevides.
Saunders and Plante joins previous boys winners this spring: Spaulding baseball player Garrett Truax, Winnacunnet baseball player Harvey Reynoso and Exeter baseball player Ethan Battles.
Latchaw won the online poll by receiving nearly 29% of the votes, totaling 254. Portsmouth track athlete Leiana Cory finished second with 209.
St. Thomas Aquinas girls lacrosse player Charlotte De Tolla had 168 votes, Oyster River softball player Laura Boughton had 157 votes and Portsmouth Christian Academy softball player Lexi Jordan had 95 votes, to round out the five nominees respectively.
Latchaw scored three goals in Traip Academy's 7-4 win over Waynflete in a Class C win on Monday, May 4. Latchaw also scored four goals in the Rangers' 14-0 win over Lincoln Academy on Saturday, May 9.
"Sam has been a key contributor to our team since she was a freshman, but has really come into her own this season," Traip Academy head coach Norm Wilkinson said. "Our offense works best when it’s running through Sam at X. She sees the field well, is an outstanding feeder, and has the quickness and stick skills to take on any defender one-on-one. She’s also tremendous on our ride. Sam is the ideal teammate, always hustling and always positive."
James Saunders and Caleb Plante are the boys winners, while Sam Latchaw is the girls winner.
James Saunders represents baseball, Caleb Plante represents track, and Sam Latchaw represents girls lacrosse.
The polls are conducted weekly from Monday through midnight Thursday.

Marshwood boys lacrosse player Rogan Boisvert had 173 votes, Dover tennis player Diego Lopez had 145 votes and Winnacunnet lacrosse player Beckett Rath had 79 votes, to round out the five nominees respectively.
Saunders had three hits, two runs scored and had one RBI in the Bobcats' 9-2 Division II win over Hollis-Brookline on Thursday, May 7. Saunders hit his first career home run in Oyster River's 10-3 Division II win over Sanborn on Monday, May 4.
