NEW YORK â Tiger Woods is reportedly reeling after his latest DUI arrest, humiliated by the fallout.
âTiger can be defensive at times but he was embarrassed and ashamed at the latest accident,â a source told People.
âHe wants to fix his problems. There is nobody more interested in seeing Tiger come out a winner again than Tiger,â the source continued. âHe doesnât do well with defeat and embarrassing public situations.â
Woods, however, is âcommitted now to getting better, however long that takes.â
The crash occurred on March 27 around 2 p.m. on South Beach Road in Hobe Sound, not far from where Woods lives in Jupiter Island, Fla. The 50-year-old golf great later told authorities that he was looking down at his cell phone and changing the radio station in his Range Rover SUV, causing him to miss the fact the truck in front of him had slowed.
Woodsâ SUV rolled over onto its side after he tried to pass the truck, which was towing a trailer, and clipped its rear, police said. He had to climb through a window to exit his vehicle.
Despite Woods passing a breathalyzer test at the scene, officers suspected he was under the influence and he was taken into custody. Authorities also reportedly uncovered a pair of hydrocodone pills in Woodsâ pocket after the crash, and he later refused to do a urine test.
Florida prosecutors have since charged Woods with driving under the influence, and they have moved to subpoena his pharmaceutical records.
âI am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health,â Woods said in a recent statement. âThis is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.â
