The Detroit Tigers were dealt some bad news this week when Tarik Skubal was determined to have loose bodies in his elbow, requiring surgery and a lengthy stint on the injured list.
And then things got worse, as Framber Valdez allowed 10 runs to the Boston Red Sox, before seeming to intentionally hit Trevor Story following giving up back-to-back home runs. It was a disaster for the Tigers.
And now, according to Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press, both the pitcher in Valdez and his manager, A.J. Hinch, were punished by MLB for this incident.
"Framber Valdez and J.J. Hinch suspended," Petzold posted on Twitter/x. This was not unexpected, especially after the nature of the HBP, which looked intentional.

Petzold shared a press release that detailed the nature of the punishment handed down to Valdez and Hinch.
In it, it was revealed that Valdez will receive a "six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at Trevor Story of the Boston Red Sox..."
Valdez's manager also received punishment from this incident: "In addition, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for Valdez's intentional actions. Hinch will serve his suspension tonight in Detroit."
For the Tigers vs. Red Sox matchup on Wednesday night, the Tigers will be operating without Hinch in the dugout.
Meanwhile, Valdez's six-game suspension should likely keep him out for his next scheduled start, which is a tough blow for the Tigers now that they're down Skubal and Casey Mize, among others.
This was a costly hit-by-pitch from Valdez, as not only was he ejected from Tuesday's game, but aside from being suspended and fined himself, he also caused his manager to be suspended one game and receive a fine.
