The Detroit Tigers have re-signed a veteran infielder after previously designating him for assignment.
According to Jason Beck of MLB.com, the AL Central club has agreed to a new deal with shortstop and second baseman Zack Short to a Major League contract. He Short recently cleared waivers and elected free agency.
In a corresponding move, Jace Jung was optioned to Triple-A Toledo.
"Jung was brought up to replace [Gleyber] Torres," wrote Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors. "Now it seems the Tigers prefer to have Short on their bench, with Jung presumably getting regular reps in the minors."
Short is a six-year veteran who has spent time with five clubs, including the Boston Red Sox and in 2024, and was from the during his first stint with the Tigers this season.
