Titans still confident in Cam Ward: ‘He wants to be great’

After an up-and-down rookie season with the Tennessee Titans, young quarterback Cam Ward is learning an entirely new offense after the team hired new head coach Robert Saleh, who then brought in new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. However, it sounds like things are going well.

Though Ward was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, he struggled at times as the Titans finished with just a 3-14 record. Ward completed just 59.8 percent of his passes while turning the ball over 14 times compared to 17 touchdowns.

Now, Ward is not only looking to grow, but he’s looking to learn an entirely new offense this offseason with Daboll taking the reins. However, according to Daboll, things are going quite well for the young quarterback.

“He is a young professional,” Daboll said, via the Tennessee Titans team website.

“He wants to be great. He is instinctive. When we are just watching the tape, he is able to communicate the things that he sees and why he did certain things when we watch the tape from last year. When we are installing the new system to him, concepts and things like that, he is able to pick things up very quickly. It has been awesome to work with him.”

While Ward was undeniably talented coming out of college, the biggest knock on him was his consistent turnovers, especially when it came to fumbles in the pocket.

Ward fumbled the ball a staggering 50 times in 38 games during his college career, and that was a problem for him once again in the NFL, where he led the league with five lost fumbles in his first seven games before ultimately finishing the season with 11 fumbles, seven of which were recovered by the defense.
