On this day in 1999, the Boston Celtics signed guard Damon Jones to a 10-day contract, marking his second NBA stop. Additionally, Oliver Lafayette made his Celtics debut in 2010 after a career in the NBA Development League and overseas.
Today in Boston Celtics history, in 1999, the storied ball club signed guard Damon Jones to the first of two 10-day contracts as a late-season addition, despite the absence of playoff contention being on the table for Boston.
A native of Galveston, Jones was a career journeyman who went undrafted out of the University of Houston in 1997. Boston was the second of ten eventual stops in his career as a peripatetic shooter. During his brief tenure of just 13 games with the Celtics, Jones recorded averages of 5.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists, while shooting 45.5 percent from 3-point range. Unfortunately for Jones, he posted an overall shooting percentage of only 38.7 percent during a time when the 3-point shot was not as highly valued.
Jones continued on to sign with the Golden State Warriors over the summer.
Today is also the date that wing Oliver Lafayette debuted for the team in 2010. An alum of Houston who went unselected in the 2007 NBA draft, the Baton Rouge native spent time in the NBA Development League (as the G League was known then) and abroad before being signed by Boston in April 2010.

He appeared in just one game on this date against the Milwaukee Bucks, scoring 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists in 21 minutes of play in the 106-95 loss.
