Todd McShay revealed insights that could influence the Tennessee Titans' NFL draft strategy. With the Titans picking fourth overall, the selections of the Jets and Cardinals may significantly affect their plans.
NFL draft week is here, and it’s time to buckle down and wade through the smokescreens and misinformation being leaked to analysts and insiders leading up to the first round on Thursday.
With the Tennessee Titans picking fourth overall, and the first pick expected to be quarterback Fernando Mendoza to the Las Vegas Raiders, really, the only two teams that could impact Mike Borgonzi’s draft plans are the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals.
On his Monday morning broadcast, draft analyst Todd McShay dropped a few nuggets on the Jets, Cardinals, and Titans, and some of it was a bit of a surprise.
For the Jets, McShay has Ohio State edge Arvell Reese penciled in for the second overall selection, which was a bit of a surprise considering many analysts and insiders were seeing Texas Tech edge David Bailey landing there. If that does happen, it could be a ripple that impacts the Titans.
McShay followed that by breaking down Arizona, and points to Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love being a viable possibility for the Cardinals, and if it isn’t Love, a trade out of the third spot could be in the works. This revelation of Love to the Cardinals is a bit of a shock after what the teams invested in the position during the free agency period, and it would definitely have an impact on what Borgonzi decides to do.
That’s when he addressed the Titans, and followed through with the pick of Love (of available), and then mentioned Sonny Styles as a potential fallback, leaving out Bailey from the equation. This would be a bit of a surprise if it were to play out this way, with edge being one of the priorities of the entire offseason, and arguably the top edge prospect still on the board.
Todd McShay indicated that the Jets might select Ohio State edge Arvell Reese with the second overall pick.
If the Jets select Arvell Reese, it could alter the available options for the Titans, who are picking fourth overall.
The New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals are the primary teams that could influence the Titans' draft strategy.
