Carlos Alcaraz could miss the 2024 French Open after picking up a wrist injury in Barcelona.
Alcaraz had already withdrawn from the Monte Carlo Masters due to his injury, but still played his opening round match at the Barcelona Open against Luca Van Assche. Following his win, he decided to withdraw from the tournament.
The decision was later made to also pull out of the Madrid Open and he is also expected to miss the Italian Open as well. The big question now is whether Alcaraz will play Roland Garros this year and Toni Nadal, Rafael Nadalâs uncle and former coach, has now weighed in.

Toni Nadal doesnât think that Carlos Alcarazâs absence from Roland Garros this year is a big problem for him. The tennis coach believes that resting now could end up being more beneficial than rushing back too soon.
Speaking on Movistar Plus, he said: âI think it wouldnât be very serious if Carlitos didnât go (to Roland Garros). In fact, I think that could be good for him because it would give him a little breathing room,â
âWe have seen many comebacks where people are away from the circuit for a long time and then return much stronger.â
He would, of course, miss the chance to win another Grand Slam and fall further behind Jannik Sinner in the race for world number one, but it is worth sacrificing if he can recover fully.
Alcaraz could then put his focus on the grass-court season and try to reclaim his Wimbledon title.
