The Jacksonville Jaguars, lacking a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, reflect on their top three fifth-round picks in franchise history. These selections are noted for their significant contributions and longevity with the team.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft next week, along with the rest of the league, and will be working without a first-round pick, which was traded away in 2025 to get Travis Hunter.
Jacksonville has a strong roster, though, with the only real holes on defense. Thankfully, this year has a strong draft class, and history has shown that the Jags can land high-quality players in later draft rounds.
Here are the top three players taken in the fifth round throughout franchise history, chosen for their production, longevity, and overall impact on the franchise.
Runners-up: Derek Landri, Antonio Johnson, Damon Jones
Craft was selected in the fifth round in 1999, and spent five seasons in Jacksonville at cornerback, in which he had seven interceptions. He was a dependable member of the defense who managed to build a strong place for himself on the roster, despite being taken so late. His longevity and consistency over the years earned him a spot on this list.
After being drafted in the fifth round in 2005, Sensabaugh was originally a backup until he fought his way to overtake Deke Cooper on the depth chart and became a reliable starter at safety. He recorded six interceptions over four seasons with the Jaguars. The fact that he was able to step into a starting role for multiple years and provide meaningful impact despite being taken so late in the draft makes him one of the more successful candidates for this group.
Taken with the 137th overall pick in 2004, Scobee was immediately an asset for the Jaguars. He is still the Jaguars' all-time leading scorer, and is the franchise leader in field goals made. He was able to consistently win games for Jacksonville, frequently able to nail long-distance field goals, and deliver in high-pressure situations where three points could win or lose the game. He was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week multiple times in his career, and he easily was one of the most impactful players in Jaguars history.
