Alexander Hernandez made a stunning UFC debut by knocking out Beneil Dariush in just 42 seconds at UFC 222. This victory is among his top five knockouts as he prepares for a fight against Rafa Garcia at UFC Fight Night 274.
Alexander Hernandez could not have made a more profound opening statement.
The St. Louis native stepped in as a short-notice replacement for Bobby Green and took the proverbial bull by the horns in his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut, as he needed less than a minute to punch out Beneil Dariush in their UFC 222 lightweight prelim on March 3, 2018 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A heavily favored Dariush clocked out 42 seconds into Round 1.
Operating in the shadows of the Cristiane “Cris Cyborg” Justino-Yana Kunitskaya main event, Hernandez was the aggressor from the start. Dariush struggled to respond but connected with a few low kicks, only to leave himself open against the heavy-handed promotional newcomer. The repercussions were severe. Hernandez triggered an exchange in the center of the cage and sent a vicious left cross crashing into the Rafael Cordeiro protégé’s face. An unconscious Dariush kissed the canvas, at which point he was met with a few rapid-fire punches before referee Jason Herzog could arrive on the scene.
As Hernandez prepares to lock horns with Rafa Garcia in the UFC Fight Night 274 co-headliner this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, his sub-minute finish against Dariush still ranks as one of his most memorable knockouts. Four others to consider:
