Jorge Masvidal gazed across the cage, tucked his hands innocently behind his back and smiled. It was as if he knew what was about to happen.
The American Top Team workhorse registered the quickest finish in Ultimate Fighting Championship history when he flattened former Bellator MMA and ONE Championship titleholder Ben Askren with a flying knee in the first round of their UFC 239 welterweight showcase on July 6, 2019 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Masvidal sent the four-time NCAA All-American wrestler and onetime Olympian to the shadow realm five seconds into Round 1.
Askren shot for takedown right out of the gate and paid an unimaginably steep price. Masvidal took flight, beat him to the spot and connected with full force, the impact of the concussive blow echoing across a stunned arena. Askren fell to the ground stiff and unconscious before being met with a few follow-up punches from the ruthless Floridian.
Six-plus years later, Masvidalâs lightning-bolt stoppage of Askren still ranks as the fastest knockout in the history of the UFC welterweight division. The best of the rest:

Goulet paid for his miscalculations at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, where 1,008 fans were on hand to witness a historical nugget. The Canadian marched toward Ludwig, a vastly superior kickboxer, and walked into a right cross that dropped him face first on the canvas in the first round of their welterweight affair. After a brief pause, referee Mario Yamasaki signaled the stoppage and sent Ludwig back to a jubilant corner that included longtime mentor and former UFC heavyweight champion Bas Rutten. The UFC recognizes it as the second-fastest knockout in its history at six seconds, though the official time of the stoppage remains unchanged at 11 seconds on the Nevada Athletic Commission books.

A picture-perfect left hook from Hendricks laid waste to the former welterweight title contender in their welterweight feature at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It was over just 12 seconds after it began. Fitchâwho had not been finished in more than nine years and had lost only once in his previous 23 appearancesâthrew a straight right hand, backed away and ate the punch that ended his night. The left hook found its mark, and Fitch collapsed. Hendricks moved in and fired off one more left hand for good measure, as referee Steve Mazzagatti stepped in to prevent the American Kickboxing Academy mainstay from absorbing further punishment.
