Starkey's previous deal with LSU was set to run out in June 2026, so Mulkey wanted to lock in her No. 1 assistant coach before his contract officially ran out.
Mulkey brought Starkey in 2022 after first season in Baton Rouge. During his time with the program, the Tigers won their first national championship in his first season with the team and have gone to the Women's NCAA tournament all four seasons.
Starkey is credited by Mulkey and LSU players for his effective defensive scouts as well as his coaching of the team's post players.
