Yuba City High baseball went down to the former home of San Francisco Giants hometown hero Dusty Baker and got right with Del Campo Wednesday, earning a 3-2 win to equalize the series at one heading back home for the rubber match.
Del Campo (7-13, 3-7 Foothill Valley League) and Yuba City (9-10, 7-4) will meet for the final time in league today Friday) at Winship Field (YCHS) starting at 6 p.m.
The Honkers, ranked fifth in Sac-Joaquin Division III, used seven innings from senior Brody Miller to set the tone from the hill. Miller allowed zero earned runs while scattering six hits and striking out three to get his third victory on the year.
At the plate, Miller scored and drove in a run, while junior Cesar Guizar and junior Emilio Ramirez drove in the other runs for YC.
“We’re taking it one game at a time and (playing) Yuba City baseball (to) try and win the series,” YC head coach Maury Castaneda said.
Kaden Placencia had two hits for Del Campo, while sophomore Ryder Rothschiller earned the loss on the hill.
Del Campo’s setback to YC snapped a three-game win streak against the Honkers, which sit a game out of the top-3 in league.

– Sutter, which cracked the top-30 in the section and No. 3 in Division V, opened a two-game set with Rio Linda with an 11-6 win on Wednesday.
Sutter (17-4, 10-4 Golden Empire League) scored multiple runs in each of its first four innings, led by Karter Johnson and Cole Callison’s three-RBI days. Jace Cummins drove in a pair for the Huskies, who are in sole possession of second in the GEL headed into a home game with Rio Linda today at 4:15 p.m.
On Monday, Sutter welcomes in the No. 6 team in D-IV, Bradshaw Christian (17-3) out of Sacramento, for a key nonleague battle in Sutter. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Wayne Gadberry Field (SUHS).
Playoffs across all divisions in the SJS open with play-in games on May 5. Brackets will be released on May 2 after 3 p.m., according to the section.
– Marysville was two-hit Wednesday at home by Oakmont to fall 6-0 and a full three games out of the top-3 in the Pioneer Valley League.
Any team not in the top-3 in any six-team league that finishes top-15 in the MaxPreps weekly rankings will earn an at-large berth into the SJS playoffs.
Marysville (8-11-1, 2-5) sits No. 14 in Thursday’s D-V poll put together by MaxPreps twice-a-week.
The Indians conclude the series with Oakmont today at 4 p.m. in Roseville.
