Tuesday Seacoast Standout: Marshwood senior has career night in opener

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Maddy Poitras will continue her lacrosse career next year at Saint Joseph's College, but the Marshwood High School three-sport standout made it clear she has one more season in her high school career to be played.

Poitras, a senior midfielder, scored a career-high nine goals and had one assist in Marshwood's season-opening 19-9 Class A win over Noble on Tuesday, April 21. She was named the Seacoast Standout Athlete of the Day.

"She's an impressive kid," said Bernie Marvin, now in his 20th season as Marshwood's head coach. "There are a lot of kids that play this sport, but she's a lacrosse player. She's all about it, and I'm very happy for her."

Poitras is coming off a 90-point junior season where she had 58 goals and 32 assists.

"That's a career for a lot of kids," said Marvin, who called Tuesday's performance dominant. "She probably could have had five or six more goals, but she wanted to get other people involved. She's a very unselfish player."

Poitras also plays soccer and basketball at Marshwood, and Marvin said she is always in the weight room getting stronger, and playing club lacrosse "getting better and better."

"She's just a strong kid, and she's a good defender too," Marvin said. "Saint Joseph's is getting a good one."
