The Minnesota Twins' starting rotation has done well this season, as it ranks as the eighth-best staff (3.79 ERA) in Major League Baseball. Right-handers Joe Ryan (3.76 ERA) and Taj Bradley (2.85 ERA) have been standouts for the Twins, with Bradley putting together a breakout season.
Another standout in the starting rotation has been right-hander Bailey Ober. After a year in which he struggled — Ober went 6-9 with a 5.10 ERA in 27 starts last season — the 30-year-old appears to be back to where he was.
This season, Ober is back pitching as he did in 2023 and 2024, posting a 3-1 record with a 3.55 ERA and making seven starts. According to Ober, via The Athletic’s Dan Hayes, his hand positioning “is way better this year.”

"My hand position is way better this year. I think that’s credit to my hip being in a healthy spot and I’m not second-guessing my landing spot or where my hand is going to be. My release point right now is a lot more consistent compared to last year."
Ober’s performance on Thursday proved the adjustment is working, as he threw six innings against the Toronto Blue Jays, allowing one run. Last season, Ober had his highest home run percentage of his career (4.8%), and his four-seamer was tagged by hitters, who hit .273 and slugged .483 against it. Hitters this season are hitting .258 and slugging .387 against his four-seamer this season.
Ober performing well benefits the Twins, who now have three quality arms in the starting rotation.
These quality arms have the Twins 2.0 games out of first place in the American League Central (14-18). With the Central so bad, no team is above .500, the Twins could be in the mix to compete for the division.
