TWIS Notes: Jordy Frahm Opts Out To Go All “N” (& Other HUSKER SOFTBALL Nuggets)

Welcome to this week’s TWIS Notes – just buckle up and grab a pad, there’s a bit of news.

Jordy Frahm Opts Out of Pro Ball for 2026

With many thinking Senior Day in Lincoln this Saturday would be the perfect time to present Jordy Frahm with an AUSL Golden Ticket, the league’s marketing promotion to indicate a player has been taken in their in their draft which will be presented May 4th, news broke on Monday she would be opting out of professional softball this coming season to focus on Nebraska softball.

An SI on Softball piece appeared to rely on multiple third party confirmations of this, so when she took the podium for Wednesday’s softball press conference, she began smiling knowingly before my question was finished. When I asked if she could confirm the news, she was more than ready:

”Yeah, you know, I am all Nebraska softball until it can’t be anymore, and we’re running out of time, and that’s sad, but until I’m done with this team, in this program, like I don’t really want to talk or even think about what comes after that.“

And as far as what that means as the regular season winds down, she said, in the wake of the team obtaining their first ever #1 ranking, that the team isn’t really paying attention to things like that since those weren’t on the goals list. And how about keeping the emotions of a Senior Day weekend in check? The answer is just do what they’ve been doing as a team.

“It’s a lot easier when you’re surrounded by people that are in the same mindset, and when it starts from the very top of the ladder. And since the very beginning of season, Coach has been talking about that and just being present. And I think once you have had maybe a little bit of success, you can easily forget what got you that in the first place, and the process that got you there. And I would say that throughout this season, we have just been so good about maintaining our process, and … at this point the season, we’re not going to get away from that. We’re just going to be ourselves. We’re going to do what we’ve been doing and keep on, keeping on.”

So, for now, the pros can wait until the Cornhuskers 2026 journey is complete, a journey which hopefully takes them all the way to Oklahoma City.

This Weeks Husker Softball Nuggets

Alexis Jensen was named as one of the Top 25 finalists for the NFCA Freshman of the Year Award. In the circle, she is 18-2 with an ERA of 2.73 with 166 strikeouts and only 27 walks. Offensively, Jensen is hitting .344 with 5 HR’s and 15 RBIs with a .641 slugging percentage.
With Sunday’s increasingly bad forecast, there is a scheduling change for the weekend.
If you watched or attended Friday afternoon’s game in Minneapolis, you might have seen Frahm immediately get the coaches and umpires involved with the wetness of the landing area in the pitching circle – the start was delayed due to an hour or so of pouring rain.
In case you don’t remember it was damp circle in the Huskers’ opening game of the 2024 season in Mexico which was the cause of the torn ACL which immediately ended her season. US Husker folks in the press box were of the opinion that they take all the time they needed to fix it. They did.

In addition to the Huskers #1 ranking in the On3/Softball America poll, they also took over sole possession of 1st place in the Big 10 regular season race with a 17-1 conference record. Previously undefeated Washington was swept by the Oregon Ducks in Eugene. CLICK HERE for the “We’re #1” article in which I detailed our chances to take the B1G crown.
After a sweep of #135 Minnesota, Nebraska’s RPI dropped a spot to 5th, but they jumped back to 4th after beating #41 Omaha 11-4 Tuesday night to sweep the season series. With the nation’s toughest non-conference schedule and a strength of schedule currently around #12, it will be very difficult for the selection committee to find reasons to give the Huskers a national seed outside of the top 8.
On3’s Bracketology currently lists the Huskers with a #6 national seed and an opening Lincoln Regional of Nebraska, Auburn, UNO and Howard U. They have Providence winning the Big East tourney and that conference’s automatic bid. Should Creighton win it, they might snag Howard’s spot in Bowlin.
For rules nerds, Saturday’s 17-2 blowout provided a fun sequence. With Sammie Bland on 1st and Bella Bacon at the plate, early in the count Bella took a pitch and hurried down to 1st base believing she had been hit. Sammie waited a bit and then scampered down to second.
The home plate ump had never made a call. He discussed it with others. The decision? Not hit by the pitch. Revelle challenged. The challenge was denied. Bacon returned to the plate, but Bland remained at second.
Why? Since the ump never called a hit batsman or a dead ball, the ruling was that Bland stole second as play was still live. Minnesota could have opted to try and throw her out or if Bland was unsure what was going on, she could have stayed at 1st. If it was determined Bacon was hit, she would have been granted 2nd base anyway.
Hmmm…we might just want to have that batter run to first sometime after an inside pitch…and sneak that runner to 2nd base.
