Tyler Onyedim, the Denver Broncos' third-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft, is eager to learn from the team's veteran defensive line during rookie minicamp. He views the competition for playing time as a positive opportunity for growth.
After trading their first-round pick for Jaylen Waddle in March and trading out of the second round on draft day, the Denver Broncos' first pick in the 2026 NFL draft was third-round selection Tyler Onyedim.
The 22-year-old defensive lineman out of Texas A&M will look to impress during rookie minicamp this weekend. The Broncos have a deep defensive line rotation, so Onyedim will face tough competition for playing time as a rookie, but he views the depth as a positive.
“It’s going to be a blessing, being able to learn from the best," Onyedim said. "They have a really, really good defensive line. I’m excited; I’m happy; I’m excited. I’m just ready to go. I’m ready to go.”
Onyedim will join a group that already features Zach Allen, D.J. Jones and Malcolm Roach, among others. He aims to soak up as much as he can from the veteran defenders.
“The mindset is just to learn, don’t be an arrogant person," Onyedim said. "Just learn, and sit back and learn from the best. That’s my mindset, just learn from the best and cramming everything so I can be the best player I know I can be.”
Onyedim seems unlikely to start right away in Denver, but he could be an eventual long-term replacement for John Franklin-Myers, who this spring.

“Definitely," coach Sean Payton said after the draft when asked if Onyedim could be a potential candidate to replace JFM. "[W]hen we’re taking a player in that spot, we discuss vision all the time. Yes, absolutely. They’re going to come in, earn their place."
Following rookie minicamp, Onyedim will get his first opportunity to practice with the team's veterans when organized team activities (OTAs) begin in early June. As the club's first pick in this year's NFL draft, Onyedim will be a key player to watch going into the summer.
