The biggest question facing every WNBA team in training camp
WNBA training camps open with key questions for each team.
Tyreek Hill remains unsigned in free agency after suffering a knee injury that ended his 2025 season with the Miami Dolphins. Despite his injury, the New England Patriots may consider him as they seek a top wide receiver.
Why is Tyreek Hill’s name still on the shelf in free agency?
Hill dislocated his knee in Week 4 of the 2025 NFL season as a member of the Miami Dolphins. The injury resulted in several torn ligaments in his knee, ending his season prematurely.
The former Super Bowl champion is expected to be out for much of the offseason due to the injury, which has contributed to him not being signed by a team yet. However, the New England Patriots have need for a volume wide receiver. Hill has not shown any signs that he is no longer capable of being that in the league.
Hill, 32, went for 265 receiving yards last season with the Dolphins. The Georgia native was on track to record the seventh 1,000-yard season of his career in 2025 had he played in all 17 games of the year. The year prior, Hill recorded 959 yards across 17 games played in Miami.
The five-time first-team All-Pro honoree did not exhibit any signs of slowing down athletically last season. Like many elite wide receivers before him who suffered serious injuries in the prime of their careers, Hill deserves the benefit of the doubt as a player who has the potential to return to form in 2026.
The Patriots have depth at wide receiver. Romeo Doubs is New England’s No. 1 option. Kayshon Boutte, as well as Mack Hollins, are next in the pecking order for Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
The Patriots are positioned well to add Hill in free agency with assurances behind him in their receiving corps. The gain to be had by a move of this magnitude goes without saying, in the event that Hill returns to full strength in 2026. They also outweigh the risks, with the roster nearly rounded out ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.
