After the news that the Saudi Public Investment Fund had withdrawn support for LIV Golf, playersâ recent performances have begun to make a lot more sense.
Reports said that LIV players heard rumblings of this before The Masters. Bryson DeChambeau was spotted having an animated conversation with Jon Rahm on the putting green before he missed the cut, and Sergio Garcia exploded on Sunday, damaging a tee box.
Only one LIV golfer finished in the top 30 at Augusta National, and that is more understandable now that we know what was happening behind the scenes. But that one player, Tyrrell Hatton, performed brilliantly.
The Englishman finished T3, shooting a 66 on Friday and Sunday to rocket up the leaderboard. He then followed up with a T5 in Mexico City.
Speaking after a six-under start at Liv Virginia, which puts him two shots off the lead, Hatton explained how heâs been able to compartmentalize everything thatâs going on around him on LIV.

If anything, Hattonâs performances have improved since the LIV Golf bombshell dropped. His two top fives, double the amount he had on LIV before The Masters, and heâs back in contention in Virginia.
He was asked if the uncertainty about his future had affected his play, and Hatton replied: âFor me personally, what I do doesnât affect anything off the golf course.
âLike my job is to play golf, and thatâs all I can do. So I try to prepare and get ready for this tournament like I would any other time that I have a few weeks off. Yeah, as I said, my job is to play golf, and thatâs all I do.â
In the world of social media, itâs difficult to keep your mind focused on the task at hand. Not for Hatton, though, as heâs removed it from his life completely, âActually, I deleted X off my phone 2 1/2 years ago, and I deleted Instagram almost two years ago off my phone.

âIâve replaced that with looking at Daily Mail and Sky Sports News and other things. Yeah, itâs nice to not have social media and the negativity that kind of comes with that. So I definitely donât miss it.â
Perhaps thatâs the secret for the likes of DeChambeau and Rahm to perform at next weekâs PGA Championship.
Tyrrell Hatton has gone from good to great in recent weeks, and thatâs because he has drastically improved his short game.
Before The Masters, Hatton had lost strokes on the greens in every single event except one. Since then, Hatton has gained strokes putting.
And around the green, Hatton only gained strokes around the greens in two events before arriving at Augusta. But in Mexico City it was the strongest part of his game.
Hatton has combined his consistent ball striking on approach with elite play on and around the greens, and thatâs allowed him to threaten the top of the leaderboard in the last three events.
Thatâs a great sign heading into the PGA at Aronimink.
