UCLA lands Iowa State forward Addy Brown in the transfer portal

Cori Close and the UCLA Bruins just keep on adding to their roster. Fresh off of an NCAA championship earlier this month, the Bruins landed Addy Brown from Iowa State on Thursday to help fill out UCLA’s rotation.

Brown is a 6’2” forward that just wrapped up her junior season with the Cyclones. Brown has co-starred at Iowa State with the nation’s top scorer, Audi Crooks. While Crooks stayed in the Big 12 with Oklahoma State, Brown now finds herself in the Big Ten.

The Big Ten Conference is still behind the SEC in terms of level of competition throughout the leagues but it’s gotten closer, evidenced by UCLA knocking off Texas and South Carolina in this year’s Final Four.

Brown put up 11.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game as a junior, having averaged 13.6 and 8.1 for her career as a Cyclone. That help on the glass will go a long ways for the Bruins, who lost Angela Dugalic and Lauren Betts down low. UCLA dominated the interior over the past few seasons, while Betts and Dugalic was a large part in that, Brown can help keep UCLA afloat in that department.

In addition to her prowess on the glass, Brown is a capable three-point shooter, averaging 36.7% from deep in her career on 3.8 attempts per game. While Brown is a few inches shorter than Dugalic, the rebouding and floor-stretching abilities is a similar skillset to what Dugalic provided for UCLA during her terrific Bruin tenure.

Don’t let Brown’s playmaking abilities go unnoticed though. The forward has averaged 5.2 assists per game for her career, giving the Bruins some offensive creation from the frontcourt. All of the sudden UCLA has a compelling group of forwards for next season. The Bruins have Timea Gardiner returning from injury, along with Amanda Muse, Sienna Betts and Lena Bilic.
