UCLA softball has set a new Division I single-season home run record with 177 home runs after defeating Penn State. The Bruins surpassed Oklahoma, which is now three home runs behind.
No team in Division I softball history has hit more home runs in a single season than UCLA has so far in 2026.
During UCLA’s 6-1 victory over Penn State in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday, the Bruins launched four home runs out of the park to mark 177 total home runs as a team this season.

Entering the quarterfinals, UCLA was tied with Oklahoma with a nation-leading 173 home runs this season. Both programs had passed the previous NCAA single-season record of 161 home runs in April and are now competing to finish the season as the nation’s leader.
The Sooners hit just one home run during their 5-10 loss to Georgia in the SEC Tournament on Thursday. Now, Oklahoma is three home runs behind UCLA for the NCAA record.
Grant tied Oklahoma freshman catcher Kendall Wells with a nation-leading 36th home run on Thursday. The pair are each one homer away from tying the NCAA record for home runs in a single season (37) that was set by Arizona’s Laura Espinoza in 1995.
The new single-season home run record for Division I softball is 177 home runs, set by UCLA in 2026.

UCLA senior infielder Jordan Woolery is also one of the top home run hitters in NCAA history. She currently ranks No. 7 all-time with 33 home runs this season.
The Bruins will play in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament against Wisconsin on Friday. But the Sooners will not play again until the NCAA Tournament. This will give Grant a chance to take the national lead over Wells and tie or surpass the NCAA record before the NCAA Tournament begins.
